- Why Carrie & Joan? If you don’t know who Carrie Bradshaw is, you have been living under a rock since '98. Carrie Bradshaw is the witty and fashion-obsessed star of HBO’s 'Sex & the City.' She is idolized for her many revealing romances, her warm personality, and her insightful and reflective commentary. Joan Carol Clayton is my favorite ‘Girlfriend.’ An attorney turned restaurant owner, Joan decided she was unfulfilled practicing law and searched for her passion. She is hilariously silly, a typically dependable friend, and a traditional fashionista. She can’t keep a man to save her life, but is comfortable in her skin, and stands by her beliefs. Joan and Carrie are two women I absolutely adore. Yes, they’re fictional, but they represent the creation of talented writers and producers who delicately developed icons for women everywhere. It is their desirable lifestyles that attracted us to their characters, but it is their feminine imperfections and color that fostered our closeness to them.
